Owner Update

December 2, 2008

Shumway has two special events this month.  We hope you can attend both the Annual Meeting on December 16 and the Holiday Champagne Brunch on December 28..

Shumway Annual Meeting

December 16 at 7:00 pm

Nazarene Church on 5th Ave South

So that the meeting can begin promptly, please plan to arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 to sign in and greet your neighbors.

In addition to regular agenda items for the annual meeting, this year’s meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about, and for Owners to provide input on, two significant issues:

1.  The Impact of the new State law on Maintenance Reserve Studies

  • The study enforces a more structured method of estimating the cost of major maintenance projects over the next 30 years.
  • Owners and potential unit buyers must be advised of the current funding level of Reserve fund.
  • There are several options available to the Board and the Owners to fund these future projects.
  • Funding the Reserve will have a significant impact on your future dues.

2.  A proposed lighting upgrade project for garages and stairwells

  1. Shumway could take advantage of current PSE rebate programs to reduce the cost of installing more energy efficient lighting systems in garages and stairwells.
  2. The project would significantly cut energy costs by up to $28,000 annually.
  3. The project would include new and modified light fixtures and controls.
  4. 67% ownership approval of this project may be required.

Holiday Champagne Brunch

December 28 at 10:00 am

Potluck champagne brunch at the Kirkland Woman’s Club

407 First Street

Parking is available in the City Hall lot.

Many thanks to Sandi McGuire for designing a beautiful and festive invitation that was delivered last week.  What a talented lady!

The committee is asking that we all RSVP acceptances to Jamie Quinlan and we tell her what each of us will contribute.  Options the committee is suggesting include champagne, casserole, fruit, or bread/pastry to serve eight.  What a fun and delicious morning for all!

Other information

  • Thanks, too, to the Community Activities Committee for arranging and installing the wreaths on the gates.

  • Several people have asked about tulips.  A proposal has been made to replant the bulbs using funds left from donations made in 2007.
